About the School Counselor

Capella University (2013) Masters of Science in School Counseling

Licensed School Counselor:  Pre-K-12th grade                        National Certified Counselor (NCC)

Counseling Experience:

This is my second year working as a School Counselor at HCES. I started working here, January 2017.  Prior to this position, I worked as a School Counselor at another elementary school in Virginia for 3 years.  I have been working as a School Counselor for 5 years now.   Before pursuing a career in school counseling, I worked as a Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor in Newport News Public Schools with students in grades K-12 and as a Mental Health Technician at a residential facility for males ages 5-18 years old.

Philosophy:  Every student needs someone at school who is willing to advocate for their needs.  I strive to help each student reach their fullest potential and I understand that there are barriers that will make this a difficult task, but I will continue to educate myself through professional development and learn how to provide effective services for the student.
