Hours of Operation: The HCES Library/Media Center is open for students from 8:00 A. M. until 3:00 P. M. Monday through Friday. Students are encouraged to come to the library/media center any time of the day with their teacher's permission.
NEW! eBooks are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of our eBooks are also AR books. Please check out our collection by going to the LINKS and selecting our Follett Shelf. Please be kind and close the book when you have finished enjoying the book.
Number of Books: Kindergarten and first graders are allowed to check out one book at a time. Students in grades two through five may check out two books.
Magazines: Students in grades two through five may check out magazines.
Loan Period: Students check out items for a two week period.
Overdue Books: Our media center does not charge a fine for overdue items. Students with overdue materials receive an overdue notice. The media assistant prints the notice every Tuesday and places it in the homeroom teachers' boxes. The teacher gives the notice to the students. This is a friendly reminder to turn in the overdue item(s).
Damaged Items: A fine may be charged for a damaged item. The amount of the fine will be at the discretion of the library/media specialist.
Lost Items: A fine will be charged for a lost items. The amount of the fine will be determined by the price of the item in Destiny, the automated system used in the HCES library/media center.
Schedule Our media center operates on a flexible schedule. Library/media center classes are collaboratively planned with teachers so that information skills are incorporated into K-5 curriculum. We are working hard to become an IMPACT school.
Accelerated Reader The AR Quiz List is available at AR BookFinder US. The HCES library/media center administratively supports the Accelerated Reader Program at our school. The library/media specialist maintains the Gator Reading Wall of Fame and awards students for earning their way into the Points Clubs. The Points Clubs begin at twenty-five points and increase in twenty-five point increments (i.e. Twenty-Five Point Club, Fifty Point Club, Seventy-Five Point Club, etc.) When students earn their way onto the Gator Reading Wall of Fame, they receive verbal recognition, a card with their picture and name on the "wall," along with a certificate on Awards Day. The students are very excited about this incentive for Accelerated Reader. The next time you visit Hunters Creek Elementary, stop by to see if your child's picture is on our "wall."
Volunteers We love to have volunteers in our media center. It is a very busy place. If you would like to assist for any length of time, please contact us! We especially need help during book fair weeks. Please consider volunteering in the media center. A few hours per week would make a difference.
Our website is in the process of being updated to ensure compliance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In the interim website accessibility concerns may be brought to the attention of Jeff Pittman, Chief Technology Officer.
